Over three days, where the weather was very much on our side, Blackpool Football Club Community Trust saw over 1120 Year 4 pupils from Blackpool primary schools visit Bloomfield Road as part of Fit2Go.
Fit2Go is delivered in every Blackpool Primary school as part of Altogether Now – a legacy for Blackpool, the multi-partnership programme between the NHS in Blackpool (Clinical Commissioning Group and Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust), Blackpool Football Club and Blackpool Council. The aim of Altogether Now is to improve the health and wellbeing of every person in the town, with Fit2Go specifically targeting key stage 2 pupils.
Funded by NHS Blackpool and the Premier League/Professional Footballers Association Community Fund, Fit2Go involves a range of activities delivered in school and community settings one of which is the Festival on the Seasiders home turf.
Over six weeks the Fit2Go team deliver six classroom and physical activity sessions in each primary school. Pupils spend each classroom session being guided through a bespoke workbook touching on a different subject each week; Healthy lifestyles; Eat well; Physical activity; It’s all about balance; Snacks and label reading; Drinks and hydration, widening the pupils’ knowledge on all aspects of being healthy.
By the end of July delivery for the academic year will be complete and Fit2Go will have hopefully influenced the behaviour of the young people and their families showing them how to live a healthier lifestyle.
In addition to school delivery the Fit2Go coaches are delivering a brand new family orientated extension of Fit2Go for the whole family to come along to free of charge, to combat the low levels of health in Blackpool being broadcast across the country, called Family Fit2Go.
Family Fit2Go consists of four interactive one hour sessions delivered over four weeks, looking at how to lead a healthy lifestyle together as a family. Blackpool FC Community Trust are offering each family member that attends all four weeks a free ticket to a Blackpool F.C home match next season as an incentive to encourage families to take part.
Each course has two available time slots, the next available dates are, Mondays 30th June, 7th, 14th, 21st July, at Blackpool Football Club, FY1 6JJ from 6-7pm or from 7-8pm. If you are not available for these dates please still get in touch and we can arrange for you to come along on another course date.

Schools attended the festival, which takes place annually, in groups of approximately 200, enjoying different activities throughout their sessions. Activities included football, tag rugby and lots of different athletics disciplines, as well as a new addition to the festival, exercise to music which took place in the Sponsors Lounge and went down a treat with everybody including all of the teachers!
We would like to thank all of our volunteers that helped out over the three days, from our very successful NCS programme, our Futsal Education Scholarship programme and especially the coaches from Fylde Rugby Club and Blackpool Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club who helped make the event so enjoyable and run so smoothly over the three days.
