Blackpool FC School

Welcome to our school. I am privileged to be the Head at BFC School and have been in post since July 2021. This is a school with exceptional character and warmth, which you can sense when you visit.

A school that puts our students at the heart of everything we do to ensure a nurturing environment to instil confidence and belief in all of our students.

My mission as Head is to ensure that this school will continue to grow to be a truly inclusive and restorative organisation that strives to meet the needs of every individual. We are a dedicated team of staff who have built a school centred around excellent relationships and the desire to bring our very best each day.

The role of a Head of School is a challenging one and whilst I take the lead for our school the very best part of my day is spent working with our students and our incredible staff team. I want everyone to enjoy learning here – staff and students alike. As a school we aim to constantly improve in all that we do, evolving our offer to meet the ever-changing educational landscape in Blackpool. We are committed to being the best that we can be – that’s what it means to be part of BFC School.

I believe for our students to be successful we must engage and support parents and guardians to ensure the values instilled in school are reflected when at home and out in the community.

We believe that our listening culture enriches the educational experience for our students, creating an environment built on respect, and supporting the aspirations of all our students.

Our website gives a flavour of our school, but the only way to really get a sense of what our school is about is to visit us. You will be warmly welcomed.

Gemma Trickett – Head of School – Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCO)

I feel incredibly privileged to hold the role of Pastoral Manager and Deputy at Blackpool FC School, a position that allows me to work at the heart of what I am most passionate about: ensuring that every young person feels safe, understood, and truly valued within their education. My practice is rooted in a trauma-attuned, child-centred approach, recognising that each student brings their own unique experiences, needs, and challenges, all of which must be met with care, curiosity, and compassion.

At the core of my role is the building of positive, trusting relationships—not only with students, but also with their parents and carers. I strongly believe that meaningful partnership with families is essential to a child’s wellbeing and success. By working closely alongside families, I strive to ensure they feel listened to, supported, and actively involved in their child’s educational journey.

Throughout my time at the school, it has been deeply rewarding to witness the growth, confidence, and resilience of students who have not always had positive experiences of education. Seeing the impact of the consistent, compassionate approaches used by staff at Blackpool FC School—approaches that ensure students feel safe, heard, and valued—has been a genuine privilege and continues to reaffirm my belief that wellbeing must be prioritised in order for learning and long-term success to flourish.

Reflection and development are integral to my practice, and I am continually seeking opportunities to strengthen the support we provide to both students and their families. While our most recent Ofsted judgement recognised the school as ‘Good’, I firmly believe that there is always room to grow. I am passionate about supporting staff through meaningful CPD and professional development, understanding that confident, well-supported staff directly influence students’ wellbeing, confidence, and outcomes. Being part of a school community that is committed to continual learning and improvement is something I value greatly and find incredibly fulfilling.

BFC School is an appropriate provision for students in Year 10 and Year 11, situated at Blackpool FC Stadium, Bloomfield Road. We work with young people for who smaller class sizes and personalised curriculums allow them to achieve their goals.

The school is a full-time provision offering a curriculum provision to enhance essential academic skills, whilst also providing students with a range of opportunities and experiences focused on personal development and wellbeing.

Providing wide-ranging experiences and opportunities to learn for students of all abilities, we develop skills in a secure, happy, and stimulating environment. Our project-based learning opportunities encourage our students to gain understanding of the community and world they live in and become aware of their responsibilities within this.

We encourage all of our students gain knowledge, qualifications, and skills relevant to adult life and employment in a rapidly changing world.
