BFC Launch Pink Retro Shirt Raising Vital Funds & Awareness for Cancer Prehab/Rehab

Blackpool FC has launched a special pink retro shirt to raise vital funds and awareness for the Cancer Prehab and Rehab projects delivered by Blackpool FC Community Trust.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and highlights this devastating disease and its effects. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the world, with over 55,000 people diagnosed every year in the UK. For each shirt sold, the Club will donate to the Trust’s Cancer Prehab and Rehab projects.

These projects support people affected by cancer through exercise, social connection and peer support. Sessions take place every Wednesday from 3pm to 5pm at Bloomfield Road Stadium, supporting people before and during cancer treatment, as well as those recovering afterwards. The programme helps participants build physical strength, improve their wellbeing and connect with others who understand what they are going through.

Improving fitness before treatment can help reduce the risk of complications, lessen treatment side effects and support recovery. Just as importantly, the sessions provide a friendly, relaxed space where people can share experiences, access support and feel less alone during an incredibly difficult time. By offering rehabilitation alongside prehabilitation, BFCCT can support people beyond treatment, helping them rebuild confidence, stay active, and improve their quality of life.

Finding Strength Together: Lesley’s Story

Lesley first joined Blackpool FC Community Trust in 2021 through an EFL-funded 10-week fitness programme, losing more than 15kg and becoming a regular at classes three or four times a week.

Since then, staying active and being part of the BFCCT community has helped Lesley through her own cancer journey and other difficult times in her life.

Having experienced cancer herself, Lesley understands the importance of support, connection and positivity. Through BFCCT’s Cancer Prehab and Rehab project, people affected by cancer can improve their fitness, build confidence and connect with others who understand what they’re going through.

“The work the Community Trust do with cancer patients is really important,” Lesley said.

“Being able to talk to others that are going through it can help massively mentally, as you don’t always want to talk to your family when you are going through treatment programmes.

“It’s a fantastic provision and this shirt is a touch of femininity to quite a masculine sport.”

You don’t have to face it alone. BFCCT is here to help people find strength, support and community when they need it most.
