Earlier this month, the Blackpool FC Community Trust FA Girls’ Emerging Talent Centre (ETC) were invited into the Manchester City Academy venue to play against their ETC.
It is always a special occasion to play against Manchester City, and give the girls in our programme the experience of playing at such a fantastic facility as well as challenging themselves against some of the best players in the country.
As ever, our girls did us proud, representing the badge exceptionally well and putting in some fantastic performances. It was even nice to see some girls who originally came through the Blackpool FC Community Trust Female Football pathway, now excelling at Manchester City.
We took a mixture of Under 10s, Under 11s and Under 12s to play against Manchester City, in two 7-a-side matches. The girls played with an aggressive press, aiming to force Manchester City to make mistakes and to win the ball high up the pitch when Manchester City played out from the back. The tactic worked well, with our ETC getting lots of success with this approach.
There were goals from all over the pitch, with standout performances from local girls Maya McSpirit and Ella McVeigh.
Andy Aspinall, ETC Centre Manager said,
“As well as aiming to develop players who can play at the highest levels of female football, part of my role is to offer experiences to girls that they will enjoy, and to create memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you to Manchester City for hosting us. We are looking forward to hopefully.”
