Trust's Walking Football Side Crowned Regional Champions

Blackpool FC Community Trust’s Walking Football team were crowned EFL Trust Walking Football Cup Regional Champions on Saturday.

This is the third consecutive year Blackpool FC Community Trust have won this title.

The Walking Football Cup was contested at the Eddie Davies Academy in Bolton where ten teams participated.

Holders Blackpool were drawn in group one alongside Rochdale, Fleetwood Town, AFC Fylde and Bolton with the Seasiders securing three wins out of four and sealing their place in the semi-final.

Wigan awaited Blackpool but the Seasiders produced a fantastic display and won 3-0 setting up a crunch final against Blackburn Rovers.

The final was a tentative affair with neither side able to break the deadlock. The final of the EFL Trust Regional Walking Football Cup would be decided on penalties.

Blackpool FC Community Trust edged Blackburn Rovers out on penalties 2-1 to secure a third consecutive trophy.

Both Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers will take part in the EFL Trust National Walking Football Cup at Aston Villa later this year, where Blackpool will be defending the National title which they won last June.

Senior Sports Participation Officer Michael Brown said,

“I’m delighted for the team. They’ve worked really well together and winning this title three years in a row is a fantastic achievement. We will enjoy this and then prepare ourselves for the National tournaments at Aston Villa. We are the holders and we will hopefully keep it that way.”
