The Traineeship 25 + programme offers the opportunity to build confidence in a work environment and offer support to build key skills including ICT Digital Skills and customer service qualifications.
Trainees take part in work experience one day a week at a variety of local businesses in Blackpool.
This is the second cohort of trainees for the 25+ age group and, like the first, it has been specifically aimed at females and will run for 8 weeks. The current group has an age range from 26 years old to the oldest being 62 years and all are unemployed.
This course runs with the support of the DWP (Job Centre) and they are present at least one day a week where they help support trainees with; Universal credit queries, work in the classroom and keep an updated list of jobs that may be suitable for the trainees for when they complete the 8 week programme.
This cohort has just completed its 5thweek with all the trainees being allocated work placements ranging from: Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Clinical Health Care Assistant, Shop floor retail assistant, teaching assistant and Care assistant. These are just a few of the work placements that are available to trainees to help gain the necessary work experience that will hopefully lead to employment.
This group has bonded well and even though they are an eclectic mix, they enjoy each other’s company.
Sarah, a participant, said, “I look forward to coming in and seeing everybody”.
Pauline, one of the trainees, has already gained employment since taking part in the course but has decided to continue so she can complete her Maths and English functional skills.
Pauline said, “It’s been a while since I have done anything like this it would be silly not to complete it”.
Course lead Tom is pleased how the group has developed and their willingness to learn, “to say some have been out of education for some time their commitment to improve and gain these qualifications is fantastic”.
The next two weeks will see the trainees being assessed on their Maths and English functional skills, tailoring CV’s and cover letter ready to apply for job vacancies.
