Provision of the Month April 2025: Get Vocal

Get Vocal aims to offer a safe space to men (18+) in the local community to open up about their mental health, while also reducing the stigma around men’s mental health.

During the sessions, open conversation is used to encourage confidence, self-esteem, and positive mental well-being within our participants.

Mental health is “a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and can contribute to his or her community.”

Mental health challenges are a common aspect of overall well-being and can affect individuals at any stage of life.

Thanks to support from Blackpool Council, Get Vocal is delivered by Blackpool FC Community Trust staff at two locations in Blackpool.

On Mondays 6pm – 8pm at Blackpool FC North Stand Community Hub.

We also have a Tuesday session 5:30pm – 7pm at Aspire Sports Hub

There is no need to sign up for these sessions as they are designed as a casual meet-up.

Shane, the Get Vocal Tuesday session lead, shared his experience,

“Personally, as a male knowing the struggles of daily life and having been through ups and downs, tackling difficulties along the way, I feel I can relate to the challenges that arise during these sessions from participants. Hopefully, Get Vocal can continue to improve men’s mental health whilst fighting the stigma around it.”

Active through Football Manager, Seb also shared his thoughts around Get Vocal and its importance in our local community.

“With a growing demand for mental health services in the town, Get Vocal is proving to be a safe space for many men. Get Vocal is more than just a project; we have aimed to develop a space/community where people feel comfortable, safe and heard. By tackling stigma and encouraging men to talk about their mental health, we are breaking down barriers that stop them from accessing support. Simply, supporting mental health matters, and we are proud to be supporting our community.”
