On Saturday 6thJuly, Blackpool FC Community Trust took part in a Premier League Kicks tournament hosted by Fleetwood Town Community Trust on a hot afternoon at Poolfoot Farm.
The Premier League Kicks tournaments take place across the country and are a great place for participants from different towns and cities to represent their club and play competitive football. The 5-aside competition was a reward for participants who regularly attend our Kicks sessions that take place at Playfootball.
Blackpool played two Stoke City sides, two Fleetwood Town sides as well as a friendly match against a team who represented “The Friends of East Pines Park”. Blackpool FC Community Trust won all of the fixtures on the day, starting with a 6-1 aggregate victory over Stoke City. This was followed by a 4-2 aggregate victory over Fleetwood Town.
The afternoon finished with a friendly fixture with “The Friends of East Pines Park”. This match had the teams mixed together and was a great opportunity for the participants to meet new people.
Matthew Guy (15 years old), who has been representing Blackpool FC Community Trust in the tournaments for the past three years said, “Kicks is good because you can play footy with your mates and have a laugh, the coaches make the sessions fun, it’s not like football training”. He then went on to say,“The (Kicks) matches are great, you get to travel to places you would never usually go. We have even watched games at different stadiums after playing the matches”.
Michael Brown, Senior Community Sports Officer at Blackpool FC Community Trust said, “Kicks is FREE to attend and is a great opportunity to get involved with football on a weekly basis, make friends and develop skills.”
