Premier League Kicks - more than just a kick about.

It’s been a busy week for Blackpool FC Community Trust’s Kicks participants who took part in the Premier League Kicks Cup on Monday 8th of April and a North West regional tournament hosted by Liverpool Foundation on Wednesday the 10thof April.

The Premier League Kicks Cup took place at Warwick University and was an opportunity for eight young people who regularly attend our Kicks programme to be rewarded for their positive contribution to the programme. Our team came a very creditable third in their group stage but sadly didn’t progress to the last sixteen out of the sixty participating teams. A great day was had by all. The team met football pundit and former England football star Alex Scott and food and drink was provided by Blackpool FC Community Trust. The team was also able to experience football as played by amputees and the visually impaired by taking part in taster sessions with the use of crutches and headsets.

Participant, Matthew Guy, said of the day, “it was great to wear a Blackpool kit and play against teams like Leicester City.”

On Wednesday the Blackpool Community Trust team had the chance to play against Burnley FC in the Community, Liverpool Foundation and Preston North End Community and Education Trust. The team made a great start with a resounding 3-0 victory against Burnley, this was followed by an even more impressive 5-0 victory over Preston and finally a thrilling end to end game with Liverpool ended with a 1-1 draw. The seven points from the three games will put us in a great positon going forward in the North West Kicks League.

Well done everyone who attended and we look forward to taking more Kicks participants to future competitions.
