An Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) workshop was delivered as part of a PL Kicks session for young people aged 8–16 by our Safer Streets practitioner, in line with our Police Partnership Funding. The session focused on raising awareness around stereotypes, discrimination, and the impact of hate speech, creating a safe and engaging space for participants to explore these important issues.
The workshop was designed to be highly interactive, encouraging young people to reflect on their own experiences and perceptions. Through a range of activities and guided discussions, participants explored what it feels like to be stereotyped or discriminated against, and how these behaviours can affect individuals and communities. This immersive approach helped young people to understand the emotional impact of exclusion better and develop empathy for others.
A key strength of the session was the depth and honesty of the conversations it generated. Discussions were robust and thought-provoking, with participants openly sharing their views and lived experiences. Hearing directly from young people about the challenges they face within their communities, particularly in Blackpool, was both powerful and insightful.

The workshop also created space for participants to express their own values and consider the role they play in promoting inclusion. By encouraging reflection and open dialogue, the session supported young people to think more critically about their behaviour, language, and attitudes towards others.
Overall, the workshop was impactful in promoting understanding, respect, and empathy, and reinforced the importance of embedding EDI-focused education within youth provision to support more inclusive communities moving forward.
