Blackpool FC Community Trust’s junior amputee team met the first-team squad and manager at Saturday’s fixture against Southend United.
The junior amputees, who made history by competing in the first ever Junior League Cup, hosted by the England Amputee Football Association last month, were invited to the match by Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer, who had read about their achievements.
Having met the first-team squad prior to kick-off, the boys also led the side out at Bloomfield Road and took penalties against Bloomfield Bear.
The visit coincided with the 2018 Level Playing Field (LPF) Weeks of Action, which aim to celebrate access and inclusion for disabled sports fans across England and Wales.
Blackpool FC Community Trust’s Inclusion Officer Owen Coyle praised the players for their interaction with the amputees. Owen said, “The players were fantastic and made the amputees feel very welcome. The amputees asked a variety of questions to the players and posed for pictures.”
Blackpool FC manager Gary Bowyer said, “It was fantastic having the junior amputees with us. They are a credit to Blackpool FC and The Community Trust and we will look forward to seeing them again in the very near future.”
