Blackpool FC Community Trust – Playground Leadership Scheme
Blackpool Football Club Community Trust have been engaging and inspiring young people at Ribble with Wrea Endowed Primary School in sport and physical activity leadership.
The Playground Leadership Scheme (PALS) lasts for six weeks and teaches pupils in year five and six how to carry out health and safety checks, develop communication skills, improvising and adapting activities and designing session plans.
Assistant Head teacher, Matt Hall said “The programme has been a great addition to the sports and coaching programme offered at Ribby with Wrea Endowed Primary School. It has allowed children the opportunity to develop leadership skills, work as a team, plan and organise events and deliver these to younger children”.
The Playground Leadership scheme has been piloted in a number of primary schools across the Fylde Coast. There has been terrific feedback from students and teachers, who have reported a noticeable increase in self confidence in sports leadership.
Millie Year five, said: “I have really enjoyed doing PALS training as it has improved my self-confidence and enabled me to become a leader! I have learnt how to play a number of fun and exciting games”.
Edward Year five, said: “Pals was good because you got to learn all about leadership skills and taught how to set up different activities”.
Scheme deliverer, Harriet Levis said: “The scheme could not have gone any better, we are looking to expand the programme further in more primary schools across the Fylde Coast in the future”.
