Blackpool FC Community Trust’s BTEC Level 3 in Football Studies 11-aside A team sealed an emphatic 6-1 victory against local rivals Blackburn Rovers.
The two teams met at Squires Gate Football Club on Wednesday afternoon vying for second place in the league with Carlisle leading the way at the top.
The Seasiders got off to the worse possible start with Rovers taking the lead inside four minutes. Dylan Henry latched on to a loose ball to poke it past the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Blackpool found themselves missing a hatful of chances but the equaliser came five minutes before half time from Tyler Davison. Blackpool then took the lead in first half stoppage time with Matty Graffin towering above his man to head the goal in. Grant Copeland then scored minutes after the restart for the second half to put the Seasiders firmly in control.
Rovers pushed for goals in the second half which created gaps at the back – something which Blackpool striker Luke Harris happily exploited. A quick fire hat-trick followed for Harris and Blackpool sealed a stunning 6-1 victory against a talented Blackburn side.
Trust’s Football Development Officer, Alex Taylor was delighted with his team’s performance. Alex said, “We knew this was a big game. We’ve been competing with Rovers all season for the top places in the league and to win 6-1 is truly remarkable. We played some fantastic football and our lads have really developed since starting the BTEC Level 3 in Football Studies course.”
Man of the Match Luke Harris could not hide his happiness following an impressive second-half hat-trick. Luke said, “The lads are absolutely delighted to get all three points. Blackburn are a very good team, so to win by this score-line sends a message to all our rivals because we are chasing top of the league Carlisle. Scoring a hat-trick is brilliant and I couldn’t be happier.”
