Lytham St Annes High Technology College represented Blackpool FC Community Trust in the Regional Finals of the EFL Kinder+Sport Under 16’s Futsal Cup on Tuesday, where they finished runners up.
The EFL Kinder+Sport Under 16’s Futsal Cup, which was held in Manchester, saw different teams across Lancashire play for a place in the National Finals in March.
Lytham St Annes earned the right to represent Blackpool FC Community Trust in the Regional Finals after winning a local competition back in November.
Lytham St Annes were drawn in Group One alongside representatives from Accrington Stanley, Blackburn Rovers, Carlisle United and Fleetwood Town. The Trust progressed to the final after comfortably progressing from the group stages and beating Tranmere 1-0 in the semi final.
Lytham St Annes took on local school Baines in the final, where the latter ran out 4-0 victors. Students from Lytham St Annes were a credit to their school as they impressed throughout the day – on and off the pitch.
Lytham St Annes and Baines will now progress to the National Finals in March at the Derby Velodrome where they will take on EFL clubs from across the country.
Football Development Officer at Blackpool FC Community Trust Alex Taylor said. “It was great to have two local schools in the Regional final at Manchester. For some of these lads it was a first taste of futsal and they really enjoyed the pace and the quick transitional play the game gives you”.
