On May 4th 2016 seven teams from the Blackpool FC Community Trust Kicks venues descended on the famous Bloomfield Road Stadium ready to compete in the annual 6-a-side Tournament.

The young people who have regularly attended the Blackpool FC Community Trust Kicks sessions get to showcase their skills on the Bloomfield Road pitch. The teams compete to try to win the Blackpool FC Community Trust Premier League Kicks Trophy, with the winning team achieving the title of being the best Kicks team in Blackpool.

The teams were drawn into two groups and once the tournament began competition was fierce with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semi finals. The remaining three teams would then go on to contest the consolation trophy.

The group stage matches produced some scintillating football with all the teams having to put in extra effort to cope with the warm weather conditions. Both the Revoe and Sports Barn venues entered two teams each into the tournament. These teams proved to be the strongest at the tournament with all four progressing to the semi finals.

After the group stage the teams competing for the consolation trophy were from the Grange Park, Bispham, and Anchorsholme venues. These teams played in a round robin to decide who would win the consolation trophy. After a very close round of matches it was Anchorsholme who emerged as the consolation trophy winners.

Over in the Kicks Cup the Sports Barn (1) and Revoe (2) teams both won their closely contested semi finals and qualified for the final. The final was a very tense affair with both teams defending well and shutting each other out. After a hard fought fixture the team from Sports Barn were victorious winning 2-1 in a great match up.

Once all games had finished it was time for the presentations of the trophies and team celebrations in front of the West Stand at Bloomfield Road.

Well played to all of the teams and players who represented their Blackpool FC Community Trust Premier League Kicks venues and we look forward to the tournament in 2017.
