IR 24/25: Meet Miss Finlay

Even though Miss Finlay is an experienced class teacher, PE was out of her comfort zone. When Revoe Learning Academy adopted a new approach towards PE, they partnered with Blackpool FC Community Trust to help build confidence in their teachers’ PE delivery.

At first, Jack, one of our PE Officers, led the sessions while Miss Finlay observed. She watched how he structured lessons, managed behaviour, and linked activities to the wider curriculum. Over time, she began co-delivering elements of the lesson, then took responsibility for warm-ups and end-of-session feedback.

Each week, Jack and Miss Finlay reflected on what worked and what didn’t. Jack offered constructive tips and shared the reasoning behind his teaching methods.

By the end of the first term, Miss Finlay was leading most lessons on her own. The children were engaged and motivated, and Miss Finlay felt ready to deliver lessons that were both fun and educational. She is confident in tailoring lessons to the needs of her pupils while staying aligned with the National Curriculum.

Miss Finlay said,

“I feel much more comfortable delivering PE after watching Jack lead the lessons. His planning has made it easier for me to teach, and the children are more engaged. Working with BFCCT has made a big difference; it’s improved my delivery and continues to help every child develop.”
