Girls Cup 2015 Report

Venue: Stanley Park Time: 3pm-5pm Date: 23/11/15

Monday 23rd November saw Blackpool FC Community Trust (BFCCT) hold our annual u13’s Football League Girls Cup competition for local schools to participate in. The tournament is organised to highlight the good work from both coaches and participants during the weekly Female Football Development sessions with the schools and gives the winners chance to represent BFCCT at an ‘Area’ competition in January 2016.

Despite the wet and windy conditions the tournament was played in high spirits by all teams, who showed good sportsmanship and commitment throughout the day.

The setup of the day had 8 teams competing in a league format, which allowed all teams to play each other once, with the top 2 teams at the end of the fixtures challenging each other in a final game, which would confirm our overall winner.

The league fixtures were closely contested, with incredible end to end action throughout most games which was a joy to watch. All teams played some great football and were a credit to their schools.

Blackpool FC Ladies strikers Louise Latham and Ellie Fisher were in attendance to witness the event and presented Lytham Saint Anne’s High School with their certificates and winning trophy.

Louise said, ‘It was good to come down and be involved on the day. The schools were all incredibly professional and the girls seemed to enjoy every minute of it. It just goes to show that the women’s game is always developing, and organising competitions like this can only be progress in aiming to get as many women and girls either into or to carry on playing football’.

“The Girls Cup tournament was perfect for the development of female football in local schools. The enjoyment of the girls who competed was very much in evidence, despite the bad weather there were plenty of smiles and laughter. All the teams who attended gave a great effort and it was brilliant to see so many females playing, competing and being part of a team. All of this helps to develop the female game”
