EFL Day of Action A Great Success

Blackpool FC Community Trust teamed up with Fleetwood Town Community Trust to promote and raise awareness of positive mental health as part of EFL’s Community Day of Action.

The two Trust’s teamed up on Tuesday afternoon and organised a football game from their respective mental health programmes with Blackpool FC Community Trust delivering Get Set to Go and Fleetwood Town Community Trust running CSI Football.

Get Set to Go focuses on breaking down social barriers for the young adults whereas CSI Football is all about raising awareness for substance misuse.

Supporting the event was Blackpool FC manager Gary Bowyer and midfielder Jim McAlister who both talked about the importance of mental health. Gary said, “Talking about mental health is the first step and then programmes like this (Get Set To Go and CSI Football), gets the adults engaged. Blackpool FC Community Trust do a fantastic job and I’m happy to support this day and other events the Trust run.”

Jim McAlister talked about how the staff, coaches and players at Blackpool FC kept him going whilst being injured. Jim said, “I’ve been injured for the best part of 12 months so it’s important that you keep positive mental health. It can be frustrating but ultimately it’s important you talk to someone.”

Blackpool FC Community Trust deliver Get Set To Go every Tuesday from Stanley Park at 12.15pm and it’s free to get involved. For more information call 01253 348691.
