David to Take on Bike Ride to Tackle Prostate Cancer

On the 9th June next year David Hayhurst, Senior Development Officer at Blackpool FC community Trust will be embarking on the ‘Football to Amsterdam’ bike ride in support of Prostate Cancer UK.

David will join ex-professional footballers such as Terry Butcher and Les Ferdinand on the ride which will see him cycling from Barnsley FC’s Oakwell stadium to Amsterdam covering 145 miles over 2 days.

Starting out as a charity challenge with 35 riders in 2013, the Football to Amsterdam bike ride from Prostate Cancer UK and the EFL reached an incredible £1million cumulative fundraising landmark in June, as 350 riders rode 145 miles to stop prostate cancer being a killer.

David said, “The bike ride is an opportunity to not only represent Blackpool Football Club and Blackpool Football Club Community Trust in raising money for this amazing course, but it is also an opportunity to complete the ride in memory of those who have passed away from Prostate Cancer.”

“Prostate cancer affects 330,000 people in the UK – a staggering statistic. Think of a packed out Bloomfield Road (capacity of 17,000) and then imagine that almost 20 times over – those are the figures we are dealing with. One in eight men in the UK will be affected by this disease in their lifetime.”

“I will be completing a number of bike rides around the town over the next couple of months to fundraise and support the amazing work being undertaken by Prostate Cancer UK. I have set myself the target to raise £1000 for this amazing cause and every donation no matter how big or small will go along way to help PCUK in there search for a cure.”

If you would like to support this amazing cause, David has set up a Just Giving page where people can make donations:
