Coming up in June 2022

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

To start June, we will be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at several of our activities.

Each week we hold a NAAFI Break for members of the Armed Forces Community who live on the Fylde Coast.  It is an opportunity to meet up, and enjoy a bacon or sausage sandwich and a cup of tea.  On Wednesday 1st June our NAAFI Break special will include Jubilee cakes, bunting and old-time music.  We look forward to you joining us in the Corner Flag 10:30 am – 12:00 pm.  For more information please contact: info@bfcct.co.uk or call 01253 348 691.

Young people who are booked on to attend our Holiday Camps on Wednesday 1st June are invited to wear red, white and blue. The majority of our Camps are now fully booked with the exception of our Stars Camps for those who are living with a disability.  Please contact Paul on 01253 348 691 for more information.

Show Racism the Red Card

On 9th June, our PL Primary Stars team will be supporting a Show Racism the Red Card event.  We will be inviting local school pupils to attend the day at Blackpool FC Stadium. Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism educational charity. They aim to combat racism by enabling role models, who are predominately but not exclusively footballers, to present an anti-racist message to young people and others. Throughout the day the young people will take part in workshops and Q&As exploring this important topic.

Blackpool Pride

We will also be attending Blackpool Pride on Saturday 11th June and would love for you to stop by and see members of our team who will have a stall as part of Youth Pride.

Armed Forces Day/Week

On the lead up to Armed Forces Day on the 25th of June, we will be holding events to celebrate the occasion:

  • On Tuesday 21st June we are hosting a free Stadium Tour for local veterans at Bloomfield Road
  • On Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd June our weekly NAAFI Break, Veterans Walk and Talk sessions and Forces Football will provide an opportunity for armed forces veterans to come together in celebration of the event
  • On Friday 24th June transport will be provided for any veterans wishing to attend the Fylde Memorial Arboretum & Community Woodland for a memorial service.
  • On Saturday 25th June transport will be provided for veterans to attend an Open Day at Hangar 42 at Blackpool Airport.

Our Armed Forces Engagement Officer, Tony, will also be attending the flag-raising ceremony at the town hall on Monday 20th June and the Blackpool War Memorial for a service of thanks at the cenotaph on Sunday 26th.

NCS at Park Community Academy Sixth Form

Our NCS team is providing a bespoke two-week programme for the young people at Park Community Academy Sixth Form, where they will be spending a week at a residential centre developing skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, creativity and leadership. The young people will then spend a week locally in Blackpool, working in a team on a social action project that will make a positive impact on a charity or cause that means something to them.

Be Internet Citizens

Throughout June, our High School Hubs team will start to deliver Be Internet Citizens.  This is an interactive programme designed for young people in KS3 and above. The Be Internet Citizens modules cover key areas of digital citizenship, offering young people the opportunity to build their critical thinking skills while developing their knowledge of the online world through a range of engaging and creative exercises. The aim is to teach young people media skills in a way that is relevant and engaging, both within formal education and their extra-curricular lives. We will be undertaking this programme with some of our local secondary school pupils soon after the half-term break.
