In partnership with EFL Trust and DWP, the project works with anyone over the age of 16 that is the furthest away from employment they can be. They are supported over a 12 week period to increase their confidence, health and wellbeing as well as developing the skills needed to enter employment in the future.
The first Changing Rooms cohort has just concluded and has been a huge success, with the participants showing brilliant signs of achievement throughout the programme.
The group finished off the programme at MFA Bowl Blackpool to celebrate how well they have all done over the 10 weeks. Throughout the programme the group took part in various different modules such as: employability skills, managing their own money, health and nutrition, computer skills and physical activity to help build their skill set, confidence and self-esteem to get them back on track to employment.
The participants were so happy with the delivery of the course that they awarded Nathan and Seb, who deliver the programme, a trophy as thanks for their efforts.
Nathan Davies, Community Engagement Officer said, “It has been a pleasure to watch this group on their personal journeys over the past 10 weeks. They have all overcome barriers that they faced in their day to day lives and have all achieved so much throughout the programme. It was brilliant to see the group all form such a fantastic bond, supporting and encouraging each other all the way. I look forward to keeping in contact with the participants and seeing them carry on with their journeys.’”
Sabrina who took part in the programme said, “The course so far has been great, fun and easy going. I do not suffer with my anxiety as much anymore. Before the programme, I really struggled to go into a shop without having a panic attack. This programme has helped me so much so far that I can now go shopping without a struggle.”
It has been brilliant to see some of the participants show interest in our Match Fit traineeship programme, which is available for over 25’s to get them back into employment. This programme gives them the opportunity to build on what they have learnt on the Changing Rooms programme and apply it in the workplace through work experience opportunities.
The next Changing Rooms group will run in 2020 and we look forward to changing more lives. Changing Rooms, Changing Attitudes, Changing Lives.
