Burnley Veterans Visit Bloomfield Road

On 19th October, a group of veterans from Burnley FC in the Community attended our NAAFI Break based in the Corner Flag inside Bloomfield Road Stadium with the idea of promoting awareness of the different veteran communities around Lancashire.

Our NAAFI Break is hosted weekly every Wednesday, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm and allows local veterans to come along, socialise and enjoy a butty and a brew.

Tony, our Community Engagement Officer, met them in the morning and took them for a tour around the stadium. The tour was really informative with lots of questions being asked. Once completed, they all had the opportunity to take photos pitch side, in the manager’s box and in the tunnel.

Afterwards, our local veterans met up with Burnley veterans at our NAAFI Break inside the Corner Flag restaurant to enjoy a brew, a chat, and a choice of a bacon or sausage sandwich.

John Pluckwell, the armed forces lead for Burnley, expressed his appreciation for the trip by saying, “Our veterans have had a wonderful experience and met some of their old comrades who had served together”

Tony Codling, our Community Engagement Officer, had this to say on the visit, “The visit was a great opportunity to get both sets of veterans interacting, discussing certain topics, reliving their camaraderie and meeting old acquaintances. Our veterans are looking forward to visiting them at the Burnley FC in the Community’s breakfast club.

Massive thanks to Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust for making this visit possible.

On Remembrance Day (11/11/2022) our veterans’ football team will be playing in a friendly against Fleetwood Community Trust veterans’ team at Fleetwood Rugby Club. There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off at 19:00 pm. A Bugler will be playing the last post and the winning team gets to keep the newly founded remembrance cup for the years duration. Afterwards there will be refreshments in the clubhouse as a social evening for all veterans and their families.

If you are a veteran, come along and support!
