Blackpool Futsal A Team Crash Out in Round 2 of EFL Futsal Cup

Blackpool FC Community Trust Futsal A team took part in the EFL Trust Futsal Cup Round 2 on a Thursday afternoon at the Birmingham Arena.

The Trust were drawn in group A against Peterborough United, Sheffield United, Burton Albion and National Champions Grimsby Town, who Blackpool beat in an early qualifying round.

Blackpool FC Community Trust 3 – 0 Burton Albion

First up for the Seasiders were Burton Albion who Blackpool beat 3-0, with goals from Grant Copeland (2) and Luke Harris (1).

Blackpool FC Community Trust 1 – 3 Peterborough United

The Trust then took on Peterborough United which Blackpool narrowly lost 3-1, with the Trust’s only goal coming from Lewis Martin.

Blackpool FC Community Trust 2 – 1 Sheffield United

Blackpool’s third game was against Sheffield United with the Seasiders needing to win if they were to have any chance of qualifying. Blackpool won the game 2-1 with Ellis Tester scoring both goals.

Blackpool’s last game saw them play against group leaders Grimsby Town, who were yet to concede a goal in their three previous games, but the Trust went into the game with confidence, having beaten Grimsby earlier this season.

Blackpool FC Community Trust 1 – 4 Grimsby Town

Blackpool conceded 2 goals early but then replied through Luke Harris taking the game to 2-1. But Grimsby added a third and fourth goal as the Seasiders ran out of steam.

This result meant that Blackpool FC Community Trust were out of this year’s cup competition but the team can be extremely proud that they have got this far against national league opposition.

We have enjoyed a very good cup run and hope to do one better next year. The lads can be really proud of themselves and they represented Blackpool FC Community Trust fantastically well.”
