Blackpool FC Sports College Opening Days

Blackpool FC Sports College offer 3 BTEC Sports courses:

BTEC Sport level 2 Sports Industry skills (1 Year)
BTEC Sport level 3 Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development (2 Year)
BTEC Sport level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development (2 Year)

Alongside these studies, students will complete work experience hours to gain an insight into the sports industry and areas of work which interest them. Students are invited to do additional volunteering hours which can result in sports coaching qualifications, paid for by the Community Trust, in addition to their studies. Whilst on the programme, students are mentored to become confident sports coaches, working alongside highly qualified and experienced coaches in the sector.

Students also have the opportunity to be coached three times a week by UEFA-qualified Academy-level coaches. This is in addition to weekly football matches whilst they are wearing the Blackpool FC kit and representing Blackpool FC Sports College.

After completing the BTEC Sports course, learners can progress onto employment or Higher Education at the college. We offer the following Higher Education pathways:

Foundation Degree Sports Coaching and Development (2 Year)
Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development (2 Year)
BSc Top Up Degree Sports Coaching and Development (1 Year)
BSc Top Up in Community Football Coaching and Development (1 Year)

As part of the degree course, students undertake a sports placement, which allows them to put theory into practice on a weekly basis. They gain the experience of coaching at different levels and abilities, which provides them with the skills required to progress into full-time employment in the sector. We have recently had two degree graduates who have gained full-time employment with the Community Trust, working as a Sports Development Officer and a Community Youth Sports Officer.

So far this year, as part of induction week, students have taken part in team-building challenges, fitness sessions, footgolf and a day of Army Training to develop problem-solving and character-building skills. They have also started their curriculum lessons, learning about the roles of a coach, careers in sports and sports development. All learners have made a good start to the academic year and are showing their ability to meet or exceed target grades.

Michael Brown, Recruitment and Enrichment Manager said,

“It’s been a fantastic start to the year. Our students have not only been in the classroom studying, but they have also volunteered in great events such as the Fit2Glow festival and celebrating Jimmy Armfield’s birthday in a football tournament at Armfield Academy.”

As well as their education studies and volunteering opportunities, Blackpool FC Sports College, for the first time, have three football squads which take part in weekly fixtures and cup competitions. This gives all football academy students more game-playing time with all the students playing at the standard which is appropriate for them.
