Careers Event
We organised an internal careers event for our students on Thursday, April 18th.
Physiotherapists, sports analysts, personal trainers, academy coaches and scouts, our very own PE and schools’ sports specialists, and public services employees, joined our college staff so students could gain insights into industry trends, skill requirements, and future job prospects. They also had the opportunity to speak with our Blackpool FC Sports College degree tutor, to understand the various education paths available after college.
Students actively participated, completing a workbook as they explored different career options. Those who engaged with more than 10 different careers were entered into a draw for top prizes.
Prize 1: A month’s gym membership at The Village Gym worth £50.
Prize 2: A Village Gym rucksack, 3 one-day passes to the gym, and training supplements.
Prize 3: A £10 gift card for JD Sports.
Teacher’s Cup
All students had the option to participate in the termly teacher’s cup tournament. Teams competed in a round-robin format, with “Harrisons Heroes,” “The Brown Bears,” and “Talk Scroggie to Me” battling it out. The final match determined the ultimate winner, with “The Brown Bears” clinching the trophy.
The next teacher’s cup is scheduled for the end of the academic year.
Barcelona Parents Evening
Parents of students booked for the Barcelona trip attended a meeting at the college to discuss procedures while abroad. This informative evening provided an opportunity for parents to interact with staff and address any queries before their departure next month.
Open Evening
We welcomed potential new students for an open evening, on Tuesday, April 30th, to explore the facilities and meet staff. They engaged in conversations with staff members and learned about the curriculum they would be studying. Degree students and parents were also invited to discuss the transition from BTEC to Degree and annual residentials in Cardiff.
Curriculum Updates
BTEC Level 2: Students honed their coaching skills by delivering sessions to various participants as part of their leadership unit.
BTEC Level 3 Armfield: The group completed a 16-mile walk to raise awareness for male mental health, collecting over £1000 for Mind Mental Health charity. They are now focusing on completing their academic assignments and preparing for university.
BTEC Level 3 Matthews: Students completed their coaching reviews and are now organising a charity event with sponsorships from local businesses.
BTEC Level 3 Ormerod: Learners completed their first additional unit and are moving on to fitness testing, exploring career options in the sports industry and developing employability skills.

Staff CPD
Staff are enhancing their pastoral skills, with two completing Level 2 Mental Health First Aid and two progressing in their Level 2 Counselling Skills course. Additionally, Caroline, our college manager, attended the Blackpool Education conference to develop partnerships and gain insights into education within Blackpool across all levels, from primary to further education.
