Blackpool FC Sports College A Team secured the CEFA Division 3 league title on Wednesday, 23rd April. Although confirmation came as Liverpool could not fulfil their fixture, the title had been effectively sealed through an exceptional season.
Made up of local 16–19-year-old students passionate about football and sport, the team conquered the season, securing the championship with three matches to spare. They accumulated 42 points, recording 14 wins and just one defeat across 15 games. Their dominance was clear with 78 goals scored and a goal difference of +61.
After opening the season with a defeat away to Liverpool, the team responded with a resounding 13-game winning streak. Highlights included a 4–0 victory over Preston North End, a 4–1 triumph against Accrington Stanley, and a thrilling comeback win over Everton, scoring twice in added time to win 3–2, representing their strength and character.
Individual standouts:
- J’Quan Richards – Leading scorer with 27 goals.
- Korey Oliver-Willis – Contributed 20 goals.
- Freddy Livesey – Played in every fixture, joint captain, and a consistent performer.
- Nicholas “Pickle” Henshall-Flynn – Goalkeeper, also represents Lancashire FA’s Under 18s.
Coach Steven Brown praised the squad, saying,
“The success is down to the players and the hard work they have put in to achieve this moment. There is some serious talent in this group of players, and I look forward to continuing to watch their development and progress within football.”
Joint Captain Kai Riley added,
“I have loved every minute playing for the college team, we have a great team and all the hard work on the training pitch and in the classroom has paid off.”
To recognise their success, the players have been invited to Wembley Stadium for the EFL Play-Off Final, where they will be presented with their league winners’ medals.
Blackpool FC Sports College offers 16–19-year-olds the opportunity to pursue a Level 2 or 3 BTEC Sport Diploma in Coaching and Development. Combining academic study with professional-level football training, students train three times a week and compete nationally against other EFL club trusts.
