World Book Day 2024 Event at Bloomfield Road

Before Blackpool FC’s home fixture against Portsmouth, Blackpool FC Community Trust held its annual World Book Day ‘Free Book Giveaway’.

This event, in partnership with the National Literacy Trust and Premier League Primary Stars gave fans the opportunity to choose from a large selection of books ranging from childrens stories to fiction and novels.

At the event hundreds of books were given to the local community and fans enjoyed talking to staff from Blackpool FC Community Trust and the National Literacy Trust about reading support, suitable literature and upcoming events.

After selecting their books, and meeting Bloomfield Bear, fans were then asked to fill in our World Book Day posters where they could share their favourite books and the reasons why they enjoy reading.

Marc Joseph, Head of Early Years and Primary at Blackpool FC Community Trust said,

“This was a fantastic event to host and one the Trust and Club are proud to support. We know some of the barriers associated to reading can be addressed at a young age and providing opportunities like this helps share positive literacy messages to our younger community. We must say a huge thank you to the Premier League and the National Literacy Trust for donating 500 books for the event.”

Sarah Wood from the National Literacy Trust added,

“It was fantastic to bring World Book Day out of the classroom and into the community – to make reading and choosing a book an exciting and engaging event for all of Blackpool FC’s young fans! We love working in partnership with Blackpool FC Community Trust to help Blackpool children unlock the vital literacy skills they need to help them thrive.”

Thank you to everybody who came along to the event!
