St George’s High School to represent Blackpool FC Community Trust at Premier League Enterprise Challenge Play-Off
- St George’s beat four other local schools in their Premier League Enterprise Challenge club heats
- They will now represent Blackpool FC Community Trust at regional Play-Offs at Anfield Stadium, Liverpool in January
Pupils from St George’s High School have won the chance to represent Blackpool FC Community Trust at this year’s Premier League Enterprise Challenge Play-Offs having beaten four other local schools to the opportunity.
The Premier League Enterprise Challenge, is the national competition element of the Premier League’s enterprise programme which began in 2009 and which is run in partnership with Sport Relief. The Challenge sees Year 9 and 10 students set a football business-related task by Premier League Executive Chairman Richard Scudamore, which this season asked groups to come up with initiatives to encourage diversity and make going to a match the most enjoyable experience.
32 Premier League and English Football League clubs have entered this year’s Challenge and will be represented at six Play-Off events in January with the Blackpool FC Community Trust team Play-Off taking place at Liverpool FC’s Stadium, Anfield.
Mia, 14, from St George’s High School said, “I’m delighted that our team has been selected to progress to the next round of the Enterprise Challenge. It’s been a fantastic experience and I feel likeI’ve added to my skillset as I feel more confident and feel like I can work better in a team.
Ashley Hackett, Chief Executive for Blackpool FC Community Trust said, “The Premier League Enterprise Challenge club heat is one of my favourite events of the year. It’s a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to get involved. It’s not often you get a challenge from Richard Scuadmore from the Premier League and to carry out an event using your entrepreneurial skills is something the pupils have been doing. We had some fantastic ideas presented to me and the other two judges and it was hard to decide a winner because the competition was that good. But St George’s stood out to the judges and I wish them well at the regional heat at Anfield. We’ve been fortunate enough to win this competition at the national level on two separate occasions, so it’s a competition we hold very close to our hearts.”
