Degree student Ewan Mooney made the trip to Cardiff last week and was presented with an award for his Professional Practice whilst studying the first year of his degree.
Senior Education officer Mark Whalley has been impressed with Ewan’s commitment over the last academic year. “The sports and leisure industry is very competitive so the modern day graduate student needs to gain experience alongside the academic qualifications. Ewan has realised the importance of practical delivery and in turn has dedicated over 200 hours of volunteering on projects which the Community Trust deliver”.
The degree programme has over 150 first year students studying the course at clubs across the country. Ewan was nominated for the regional award by his club mentor and successfully beat nominees from other North West clubs.
“I was delighted and shocked to receive the award whilst I was on residential in Cardiff. I did not expect to be nominated, never mind win. There was a lot of competition from other clubs so to win was definitely a pleasant surprise”.
Mark then went on to add “The Professional Practice Award is given out to students who have gone above and beyond the academic requirements of the course. This not only shows dedication and a strong work ethic, but is a great example of time management skills, to juggle voluntary work around a full time degree, part time work, and challenges that Ewan has faced in his personal life”.
Ewan is studying a Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development at the Community Trust, in partnership with the University of South Wales and the English Football League Trust.
