Clifton Rangers JFC under 16’s enjoyed an activity packed summer as part of Blackpool FC Community Trust’s National Citizen Service (NCS) programme. Spending time away from home on a residential and supporting their local community, the Clifton players had a summer to remember whilst their club received £500 to help buy kit and equipment.
Spending their first week at Lockerbie Manor, the Clifton players participated in activities such as abseiling, paddle-boarding and canoeing before spending time to live independently, at Hothersall Lodge learning how to be self-sufficient, developing new skills and finding out more about the needs of the local community. From there, the players planned and delivered a community project in their local area which included raising over £600 for local charities.
After the programme, Mark Arrowsmith, a parent of one of the players said, “The NCS staff have been a different class from start to finish – I definitely recommend NCS.”
Another parent, Jo Bibs, said, “Thanks to all the NCS staff for looking after our boys. They have made memories and have had a summer to remember after completing their exams.”
Following the NCS Summer residential, Clifton Rangers have subsequently had a fantastic start to the season, winning all of their opening league matches. Manager Andy Clarkson said, “It’s really helped our lads as we’ve gone into the U18’s this season full of confidence. We had over ten lads attend the NCS residential and we were rewarded with a cheque for £500, which will go towards some new training equipment to help the lads develop. I highly recommend any other U16 junior football teams or organisations to get your young people involved on the programme.”
