Rob first became involved with Blackpool FC Community Trust as a Blackpool FC Sports College student when he enrolled on our Level 3 Extended Diploma course back in 2020. Rob was the perfect student, always striving to achieve the highest grades in his work while completing everything with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. As a result, he was awarded a D*D*D*, the highest grade you can reach.
Not only did Rob excel academically, but he also began to take on some voluntary work within the Community Trust where, again, he made a significant impression on staff and was regularly involved in sessions. Fast forward two years and Rob is now an employed casual coach on the Tiny Tangerines programme leading sessions across various venues and age groups. He is also part of the Trust’s Primary school provision assisting in the delivery of afterschool clubs. Rob also coaches at the Community Trust’s Football Camp every half term and has recently gained a voluntary placement within the pre-academy sessions at Blackpool FC as well as managing his own under 13s football team at Southshore FC.
In September 2022, Rob decided to extend his education with us further and enrolled on our Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Development in partnership with the University of South Wales. He continues to thrive in his studies as well as his coaching with the Community Trust, resulting in the accomplishment of his FA Level 1 coaching award and a Level 2 Multi Skills qualification.
Rob is currently a 1st year degree student and continues with his coaching across a variety of provisions. He aims to complete his UEFA C coaching award this coming year and finishing his degree studies successfully ready for year 2.
Rob Mellor said:
“The Degree so far has been very beneficial for me, not only challenging with a variety of assignments developing my academic ability but also plenty of opportunities to enhance my coaching skills. I am provided ample opportunity to showcase my skills in the work field within the Community Trust and the support received throughout is second to none.”
