JOB OPPORTUNITY: Pastoral Mentor & Deputy DSL

Blackpool FC Community Trust is the official charity of Blackpool FC, based at Bloomfield Road Stadium. Working with residents as young as 2 years old up to adults in the later stages of life, BFCCT provide a diverse range of programmes to increase social inclusion opportunities; improve physical fitness, health and education; and lessen involvement in anti-social behaviour.

In recent years the Trust has grown significantly and has become an established organisation, providing something for everybody, that every Blackpool FC fan and resident should be involved in and very proud of.

Blackpool FC Community trust was proud to open its independent school in September 2021 for Key stage 4 learners. The school is an alternative education setting to support learners who are either at risk of permanent exclusion or those who need support that cannot be provided in a mainstream setting, this includes behavioural issues, mental health and well-being concerns and students who love sport, in particular, football.

Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism and ADHD.

The work we do is both varied and challenging and, as a trauma informed school, all staff are provided with training and support. Our school culture places the child at the centre of decision making, ensuring that the school, parents/carers, local authority teams and, most importantly, our students can work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all.

As a school we create a nurture environment and believe in a caring approach to supporting and modifying challenging behaviour. Our Pastoral mentor needs to embody, lead, and facilitate this in our school environment by working closely with all stakeholders including staff and students.

The Pastoral Mentor is an integral role within our school community and, as such, we are looking for someone to take on the role as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) as part of this position.

The successful candidate will be calm and consistent at all times. Experienced in de-escalation the post holder will have a working and practical knowledge of behaviour management and support strategies which will emotionally support children to improve attendance, behaviour, progression, and confidence.

This post offers a brilliant opportunity for a motivated and inspiring individual who enjoys making a difference through improving the lives and futures of the young people attending BFC School.

The ideal candidate will have:
•Experience of the classroom environment
•Through understanding of professional boundaries
•The ability to encourage and students to achieve their potential.
•Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to students and staff effectively and professionally in all circumstances.
•Experience of working with a range of special educational needs
•Experience of working with students who have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP)
•Patience and understanding of individual circumstances and needs

As a small school with a smaller staff team, you may also be required to support across other areas of the curriculum, including sports and enrichment activities. We have strong team ethos and strive to support staff and students alike to ensure a positive and nurturing culture across our school.

As a school we believe that staff wellbeing and work life balance is key to a happy school, therefore teachers have allocated time within their timetable for planning and marking to limit and even remove the need to take work home.

The job holder will play a powerful and influential role in many young people’s lives by promoting the Community Trust and its values.
