Football Fans in Training (FFIT) is a 13-week programme designed to improve health and increase physical activity for males and is delivered at Bloomfield Road.
The Football Fans in Training (FFIT) participants returned to Bloomfield Road for their three, six and nine month follow up session in our brand-new state of the art Education and Community Centre.
The programme includes an initial health check at the first session, with 13 weekly sessions being split between classroom and physical activity sessions.
The main aims of the programme are to:
– Increase knowledge of diet and nutrition
– Improve lifestyle choices
– Increase physical activity amongst participants
– Reduce weight and waist measurements
– Increase engagement in other physical activity
Those participants who complete the FFIT programme are invited back every three months for a follow up session to share their progress and take part in a physical activity session.
The participants from our first programme lost a combined weight of 38kg, losing a total of 61.9cm from around their waist.
Our second programme lost a combined weight of 62kg and lost a total of 82.9cm from around their waist.
Our third programme lost a combined weight of 95.8kg, losing a total of 132.7cm from around their waist.
This adds up to a collective weight loss of 195.8kg, more than 100 bags of sugar, and 277.5cm lost from around their waist which is the length of a Renault Megane.
Steve Quarmby one of the participants who took part in the third course said, “A review is greatly needed. I’ve probably put a few pounds back on and probably not doing as much exercise than I was previously doing whilst on the course and I think that’s solely down to the fact I didn’t have that moral support I think that’s really really important but all in all so far, fantastic.”
It was great to hear such positive feedback from the programme. Steven Hill lost a remarkable 13.9kg and 6.4cm from around his waist whilst on the programme and has continued to keep going since his programme concluded.
“I would recommend the course to anyone who is serious about it. You can’t just expect 13 weeks and then four/five stone gone. You have to want to do it and carry on with the lessons they teach you and with the education they teach you but if you’re all in then it will work. It’s definitely, 100% worthwhile doing.”
Nathan Davies, Health Officer at Blackpool FC Community Trust said:
“It was great to see so many faces return for the follow up session. Even more impressive to see so many participants had continued their progression after finishing the programme. I’m looking forward to seeing them again at the physical activity sessions we will be running, for the participants who have completed the programme, which will run for 5 weeks before Christmas. It’s great that we can help them continue a healthy lifestyle after the programme, not only at these sessions but by offering walking football too.”
