On Saturday 4thMay The Community Trust held a FREE Family Fun Day for our local community to come along and take part in, prior to Blackpool FC’s final home fixture of the season against Gillingham.
Through sponsorship from Tower Insurance we were able to provide free match tickets, to local families that are involved with our current provision. We also awarded tickets to winners of social media competitions and local organisations that help us support the community. These free tickets enabled us to offer an opportunity which may not always be accessible to local families.
There were a variety of activities for all age groups to get involved in, from a bouncy castle and face painting to penalty shoot-outs and mega football in our giant inflatable pitch. We also set up table tennis and game consoles in the former Club Shop, which will soon be refurbished to ‘Blackpool FC Community Trust Education and Community Centre’. The event was compared by Fylde Coast Radio who also provided music and played everybody’s’ requests, boosting the atmosphere further.
In conjunction with Blackpool Food Bank we asked for anyone collecting a free ticket, to bring a food donation with them if they are able. The response has been OUTSTANDING with over 2000 donations being made – thank you! Blackpool Food Bank provide emergency food parcels through local front line agencies, such as Children’s Centres and Citizens Advice Bureau, to support families and individuals in Blackpool and the surrounding areas who find themselves in financial crisis and are unable to afford food.
It was great to be able to support Blackpool Food Bank’s work alongside our Family Fun Day so thank you everyone who kindly make a donation.
Rob Purdon, BFC programme cover designer, kindly came along to the event and offered everyone FREE caricatures. “The Community Trust do a tremendous job and have remained a shining light in dark times. They deserve as much support as possible, so to be able to get involved in the Family Fun Day was a pleasure. I look forward to helping them out with other events in the future.”
It was also great to have John Cross, from Blackpool FC Programme & Memorabilia Collectors’ Club, hold a ‘Swapperama’ opportunity for fans to; buy, sell, swap, exchange all types of Blackpool FC programmes and memorabilia, it was fantastic to see young and old fans together enjoying the history of the club.
“My two little girls really enjoyed attending the fun day! They enjoyed playing on the bouncy castle and the running ladders. It was great to see such a variety of activities for all ages. They were also really excited to have their faces painted with heart footballs and glitter!”
