COMING UP IN MAY 2022

Mental Health Awareness week Monday 9th May – 15th May

The Mental Health Foundation has announced that this year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness week is loneliness. Loneliness affects millions of people in the UK every year and is a key driver of poor mental health. Loneliness has been an important factor contributing to higher levels of distress, resulting from people’s sense of isolation and reduced ability to connect with others.

The week will raise awareness of the impact of loneliness on our mental well-being and the practical steps we can take to address it.  Reducing loneliness is a major step towards a mentally healthy society.

Based on local loneliness statistics Blackpool FC Community Trust (BFCCT) established a new pilot area of work in 2020, called POOL Together, specifically linked to supporting people who are isolated, lonely, or experiencing poor mental health.

Since POOL Together began in July 2020, the programme has engaged over 1000 different people, and the intention is that this will double by the end of 2022.

Pre-Traineeship & Traineeship

Our next free 12-week Pre-Traineeship and Traineeship programme commences on 3rd May to provide learners with fantastic opportunities to personally develop their employability skills and long-term employment opportunities.

We work with over 35 local employers to ensure valuable work placements and potential employment opportunities through functional skills qualifications up to level 2 Maths and English. Learners will also gain industry-standard first aid qualifications and the skills and experience you develop will support future job applications and look great on your C.V.

To apply for the next course or for more information, please email rick.bryan@bfcct.co.uk or call 01253 348691.

PL Inspires Pupils Planting Trees

Pupils from Armfield Academy pupils from our PL Inspires Challenge held a shirt swap event, ‘Swap Shop’ on Saturday 30th April at our Education and Community Centre. Members of the public were encouraged to bring along any football shirts they no longer needed and swap them for another donation in a bid to reduce the waste from football shirts.

If they have no shirt to swap, a small donation was required to purchase one of the exchanged shirts. From those donations, on May 10th students are planting trees and flowers with Blackpool Park Rangers to make Blackpool a more environmentally friendly place to live.

National Literacy Trust’s Take 10

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, National Literacy Trust are holding a ‘Take 10’ event on Tuesday 10th May at 10 am to encourage everyone to read for 10 minutes to improve their wellbeing and literacy skills.

Programme and Memorabilia Fair

A Programmes and Memorabilia fair has been organised and will take place on Sunday 15th May 2022 at the Education & Community Centre, situated north of the Blackpool ground (opposite the Stan Mortensen statue). Light refreshments will be available when doors open at 10 am and the fair will run until 1.30 pm.

We already have numerous stallholders signed up to stand at this popular event. A huge range of football memorabilia will be available to purchase in addition to collectors’ traditionally favourite items – match programmes. There will be ticket stubs, enamel badges, football shirts, pennants, signed books, magazines, autographed items, and a whole lot more.
