Try the Train
As we come to the end of the ‘Try the train’ initiative, degree students celebrated by planning a visit to Liverpool Christmas Markets. Students used the Northern Rail app to plan the day from start to finish. They lead the group and made sure they were on time for trains and spoke to staff to ask for clarification on platforms and directions. Students also got a chance to go and do a bit of Christmas shopping and thoroughly got involved in the Christmas spirit. Students will now use these developed skills when attending the end of year residential in Cardiff, with many planning to travel by train.
Progress Review evening
We had a very successful progress review evening with many parents/ guardians meeting their child’s personal tutor face to face whereas others opted for a phone call home. If you would still like a meeting, please do get in contact and we will do our best to arrange a time to suit you.
Open Evening
Open evening took place on Tuesday 12th December where potential new students came to look round the college, ask questions and try out some classroom activities they would do when on a BTEC sports course. Staff enjoyed meeting the young people and will look forward to working with them next academic year!
Christmas gift wrapping
Staff and students have supported the Festive Fundraiser between Blackpool FC and Blackpool FC Community Trust. The students who helped wanted to give something back and support our community for children who may wake up on Christmas day with very little or no presents. Christmas songs were on, and all helpers got into the spirit, wrapping over 1200 presents.
Exam achievements
Throughout the month, there has been numerous English and Maths exams. Although we are still waiting for some results to come back, there have been many successes with some students passing their Functional Skills on the first attempt.
Student Success
Congratulations to Leo Johnson who has received Player of the Month and Katie Normanton who has been awarded Learner of the Term.
