On Friday 10th January, Blackpool FC Community Trust competed in the EFL Girls Cup.
This was an opportunity for year 7 and 8 girls from Armfield Academy to represent the Trust and compete against other EFL clubs across the North West region. The students earnt this honour of representing Blackpool FC after their fantastic performances and winning the local EFL Girls Cup. This was hosted from Stanley Park back in November 2019.
Unfortunately, the girls didn’t progress through to the next stage of the Cup, however they competed brilliantly, and all had a suburb attitude on the day. They were a credit to Armfield Academy and Blackpool as a community.
Armfield Academy PE teacher, Joanne Cairns stated:
“This is the first time Armfield Academy have entered this competition and they performed exceptionally, making the school and staff very proud. They thoroughly enjoyed competing against other teams throughout North West and even though they were not successful this year, the girls cannot wait to compete again next year.”
One of the girls who took part said, “I loved the experience of playing against schools out of Blackpool and hope we get through next year and can go even further.”
To follow on from the competition and the success Armfield Academy have had, Blackpool FC Community Trust will be starting an afterschool girls football session free of charge. This is with view to start a community girls football session funded through the PL Kicks programme in April 2020.
Don’t forget Blackpool FC Community Trust also run FREE football sessions throughout Blackpool on weekday evenings called PL Kicks. These sessions are aimed at children in school years 3 – 11. In addition to these we are holding NEW Kicks Club sessions which involves activities such as: Dance, boxing, Panna Football as well as other multi sport activities.
