Armed Forces Tournament 2023

With support from the Armed Forces Covenant Trust and The Veterans’ Foundation our BFCCT Armed Forces Football Team took part in the 2nd annual Penwortham Charity Football Tournament. This year funds were raised for Andy’s Man Club; a charity set up to spread awareness of mental health and suicide prevention. Many teams took part from all over Lancashire and the derby within Group A was Blackpool Therapy FC and BFCCT Vets. Both playing in tangerine, one team losing the imaginary coin toss and donning Hi-Viz yellow bibs. Sunglasses were a must for this colourful game. A good hard fought game with two goals from veteran Jason Nuttall helped us finish third in the group. The standard of football was very high and it’s just an assumption that players slow down and take things a little slower once passing the age of 40.

Passion could be seen across all the pitches and one team was especially setting the pitch on fire! That team was Darwen Vets who had a myriad of former pro footballers amongst their squad. The one and only Brett Ormerod turned out for Darwen but took time out for a chat and photograph with the our Team. Out in the quarters, the competition won by a very strong Penwortham Saint Gerrard’s Vets. It was a great afternoon thoroughly enjoyed by all and for an amazing cause. We hope to see you all again next year!
