PL Kicks Participants Head to Anfield

On Friday 3rd January Blackpool FC Community Trust attended a Premier League Kicks Under 15/16’s fixture against the Liverpool Football Foundation.

13 players from across the Blackpool FC Community Trust Kicks sites joined together for the first time to play in a 11 aside football first fixture on a pleasant but cold afternoon in Anfield.

Blackpool took an early lead through Matthew Guy after he dribbled well through the penalty area and drove his shot across the goalkeeper and into the far corner. Blackpool controlled the remainder of the half and doubled their lead when Josh Harris remained calm in the 18 Yard box and struck low into net. Minutes before half time Liverpool were awarded a penalty after Dylan Costello was adjudged to be too physical on a corner for the hosts. Liverpool weren’t able to pull one back as Jack Grove saved well down to his right.

Liverpool started the brighter in the second half but couldn’t quite trouble Blackpool’s back line. Blackpool caused a couple of dangerous counter attacks through substitute Lewis Hunter. Josh Harris dribbled well down the left, cut inside his full back to go one on one with the goalkeeper where he was brought down. The referee awarded a penalty and Harris stepped up to take. He scored at a good time for Blackpool as Liverpool were starting to grow more confident in the game. Ashton Wainwright then added a fourth for Blackpool as his deflected shot from distance sent the goalkeeper the wrong way. Liverpool eventually got the goal they deserved when Jack Grove brought down Liverpool’s centre forward when through on goal.

The game finished 4-1 to Blackpool at Liverpool’s stadium.  They also met Darren Till (Mixed Martial Artist) currently competing in the middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Darren took time out to speak to the young people and answer questions.
