Fit2Go - Player visits

Player visits 24/04/14 write up –

Fit2Go is being delivered as part of Altogether Now – a legacy for Blackpool, the multi-partnership programme between the NHS in Blackpool (Clinical Commissioning Group and Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust), Blackpool Football Club and Blackpool Council.

Funded by NHS Blackpool and the Premier League/Professional Footballers Association Community Fund, and delivered by Blackpool FC Community Trust, Fit2Go involves a range of activities delivered in school and community settings to young people and their families.

As we complete the six week delivery in our fourth set of schools this academic year, Blackpool FC players have been to see some of the Year 4 pupils that took part.

Andy Halliday and David Goodwillie went along to Mereside Primary School, Tony McMahon and Stephen Dobbie visited Baines Endowed, whilst Andy Keogh and Steven Davies were at Waterloo Primary to mark the successful completion of the six week healthy lifestyle programme.

These visits give pupils the chance to quiz the players on how professional footballers lead a healthy lifestyle and are a great way for the young people to get close to their footballing heroes.

Mereside-Visit---Halliday---April-2014Andy Halliday (left) said: “It’s a great way of putting something back into the community. It’s humbling seeing how excited the pupils get when representatives of the Club, be that the coaches from the Community Trust or us as players, visit a school and from what we’ve seen today the children seem to get a lot out of Fit2Go it’s a great programme.”

All pupils got the players’ autographs and photos were taken of the visit.

To find out how Fit2Go could benefit your whole family Blackpool FC Community Trust run a family orientated version of the programme that is free to attend.
