Blackpool FC Community Trust Futsal student to represent North West

Futsal is the only form of indoor football approved by FIFA, UEFA and the FA. With over 2 million players regularly participating in fast-paced 5-aside action, that rewards good technique and game intelligence, Futsal is globally recognised as one of the fastest growing indoor sports in the world.

To ensure that young people wanting to work in sport are fully prepared for their future, the Blackpool FC Community Trust Level 3 Futsal Scholarship includes a full-time education package for 16 and 17 year olds incorporating BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma, worth up to 3 A-Levels.

Learners have the opportunity to train for up to 4 hours a week with Blackpool coaches, under the direction of the Football League Trust. Training is supplemented with fortnightly regular fixtures against other teams, representing professional clubs, in the Football League Trust Futsal League.

Three of the Blackpool FC Community Trust current Level 3 students were selected to attend trials to represent the North West in the FA Development Squad.

Goalkeeper, James Poxon, defender, Niall Valentine and winger, Ryan Waring-Mitchell went for trials in Manchester.

James, Niall and Ryan were invited back to all three rounds of the selection process and goalkeeper James Poxon was selected to represent the North West for the upcoming season, competing against other regions and training with the squad. Matches will take place at St Georges Park, The FA’s national Football centre.

Niall and Ryan came very close showcasing their skills incredibly well and receiving some positive feedback and pointers on how to further enhance their game, and have been invited back to try for next seasons team.

Blackpool FC Community Trust wishes James Poxon all the best with his first fixture at St Georges Park against one of the other regional teams from across the UK, yet to be released.
