Thousands go 'POP FREE'

For the third year running the GULP Challenge, supported by Blackpool FC Community Trust’s Fit2Go team, has encouraged thousands of children to go “pop free”.

As sugary drinks are readily available to children across Blackpool, the Giving Up Loving Pop (GULP) Challenge aim was to reach more than 4,500 Blackpool primary school children from Years 4, 5 and 6 to reduce their sugar intake.

The council-backed campaign encourages pupils to take part in a 21-day challenge to give up sugary drinks with the hope they will switch to healthier options, such as water or low-fat milk, reducing the development of potentially life-threatening conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity.

This year the class with the most amount of ‘pop free’ days were treated to a FREE visit to Blackpool High Ropes at Stanley Park.

This years winners were:

Year 4: Stanley Primary 4N – 401 completed pop free days 68% of possible days

Year 5: Kincraig Primary – 365 completed pop free days 75.5% of possible days

Year 6: Kincraig Primary – 317 completed pop free days 65.5% of possible days
